Patch, upgrade, or migration?

This site is about the patch, upgrade or migration process for supported versions of Bravura Security Fabric . Bravura Security uses product version numbers denoted by major.minor.patch.build; for example if your version is 12.3.1.54321, the major release is 12, the minor release is 12.3, the patch release is 12.3.1. and the build is 54321. The documentation uses the following terms:

  • Upgrade Follows a six-month cadence, with new versions denoted by an increment in the major or minor version number. For example, 12.0.1 to 12.7.0. Upgrading is the process of updating your Bravura Security Fabric instance to the latest available version to take advantage of new features and performance enhancements. However, it's important to be aware that these upgrades may require schema changes, may not retain backwards compatibility and could require updates to the operating system, database, or third-party software to maintain seamless operation. This is also referred to as an "in-place upgrade".

  • Migration Copying configuration files and raw data from one instance to another. This can be done while installing a newer version of Bravura Security Fabric , or can be the same version.

  • Patch is denoted by an increment in patch or build version number. For example, 12.6.1 to 12.6.2. Patches are for remediating security vulnerabilities and severe bugs, and improving stability without introducing new features or schema changes. They can be applied with minimal downtime and disruption, and starting in version 12.4, can be applied in a rolling upgrade with zero downtime.

  • Release train Bravura Security uses the concept of release trains to streamline the release of fixes and stability enhancements. Customers request the head of a release to implement the latest available patch for their product major.minor version. Release trains allow customers to benefit from fixes and enhancements as soon as they become available.
